The Future is Watching

Founder’s Letter — Launch of the Poster for the 2026 Edition Celebrating the Works of 2025

When we created Movilfest in 2010, smartphones were still simple devices. The cameras were modest, the technology limited, and few people believed that meaningful cinema, photography or storytelling could emerge from a mobile phone.

But for us, that was never the point.

Movilfest was born with a simple conviction: the talent is everywhere in the world, but opportunities are not.
And sometimes, all someone needs is a device in their pocket and the courage to tell a story.

Years have passed since that first edition. The world has changed in ways none of us could have imagined. We have all lived through moments that reshaped how we see technology, creativity and even each other.

Today, Movilfest returns.

And it returns stronger than ever.

This edition has overwhelmed us in the most beautiful way possible. Thousands of works have arrived from every corner of the world — films, photographs, stories and visions captured through mobile devices by creators who believe that creativity should not depend on where you were born, or what equipment you own.

What matters is the voice behind the lens.

The poster of this edition carries a very personal image.
The photograph was taken in Ibiza, the island where I was born. The girl in the image is my niece, Irene. She was simply playing on the beach when she looked directly at the lens of the mobile phone I was using to take the photograph.

Her gaze is clean, curious and honest.

Sometimes the world needs that kind of look — a look that reminds us that things can still be different. That the future can be more equal, more just, and more joyful for everyone.

Irene represents that future.

She also reminds us that what we do with our screens today will shape the world they will grow up in tomorrow. Our phones are powerful tools, but they are also mirrors of who we are, what we believe, and what we choose to share with the world.

“2026 Edition — Celebrating the works of 2025.”

Movilfest returns not only as a festival, but as a mission that continues — a mission to discover voices, celebrate creativity and remind the world that storytelling belongs to everyone.

Because sometimes, all it takes is a mobile phone… and a story waiting to be told.

In this new chapter, Movilfest also finds itself at the meeting point between human creativity and artificial intelligence. This year we have received many works that combine AI with traditional filmmaking, and even some created entirely through artificial intelligence. For us, this evolution is not something to fear, but a reflection of how storytelling continues to transform. Used with care and responsibility, AI can become a powerful tool to democratize talent and open new paths for creators everywhere. Yet technology alone cannot replace the human gaze. It is imagination, emotion and intention that give meaning to every image and every story. AI may expand the possibilities, but the true power of creation will always belong to the human spirit behind it.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

And somewhere, a child like Irene is watching the world through our screens.
Let’s make sure what she sees is worth believing in.

With love,
